Starting from October 2025, all payment institutions in the European Union will implement the Verification of Payee (VoP) mechanism.
This feature helps reduce payment fraud by verifying whether the name entered by the sender matches the registered account holder’s name at the receiving bank — before the transfer is confirmed.
VoP applies to SEPA transfers and is part of new EU regulations designed to protect users from Authorised Push Payment (APP) fraud.
When you make a SEPA transfer, Blackcatcard automatically checks if the name you enter matches the account owner’s name associated with the IBAN.
Based on the result, you’ll see one of the following messages before confirming your payment:
The entered name and IBAN fully match the recipient’s registered details. The payment can proceed as usual.
The system detects a slight difference between the entered name and the registered account name — for example, a typo, extra space, or shortened version. You’ll see the verified name as it appears on the recipient bank’s side and will be asked to confirm that you accept the risk before proceeding.
The account exists, but the name differs considerably — for instance, it belongs to another person or company. You can still proceed, but you’ll need to confirm that you understand and accept the risk of sending money to an unverified recipient.
No matching account was identified for the entered details. You can still proceed, but you’ll need to confirm that you understand and accept the risk of sending money to an unverified recipient.
